Information:
The Arcadia Dragons are always looking for new team members who are a good fit for what we are trying to do.
We are looking for families who want to develop their athletes both on and off the track. We focus on leadership and development! This is accomplished by ensuring our athletes have chances to both lead and follow, on a regular basis, during the season. We also encourage them to be well-rounded, respectful, and develop confidence, but not arrogance, in all they do. We will work them hard, but keep it fun and exciting at the same time.
In track, there is an event for everyone! We strive to develop distance runners,
sprinters, throwers, jumpers, and hurdlers! We will ensure your child gets exposed
to the best events which complement their own personal talents and ability
levels.
PRACTICES:
Our practices are tentatively scheduled for:
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm at Arcadia High School.
The basic track season runs from March to June, with opportunities for
those who qualify to continue into July and August for Regional and
National track meets!
The expectation is that all athletes participate in all scheduled track meets, and attend practices regularly! Thus, please only sign up if you are committed to participating as stated above!
Track meets are usually Saturdays and/or Sundays depending on the given event and age group.
Track meets can last for 4 to 8 hours, or more each day! Again, this is dependent upon how many events one signs up for. Thus, please know this ahead of time before you commit to being a part of our team! For the most part, the time goes by relatively fast, at least for the athletes, as they are warming up, checking results, checking in, cooling down, and hanging out with their teammates. The kids typically have a great time and get along quite well. The parents also seem to have a nice time interacting with each other. Thus be prepared for long, but enjoyable, track meets! Bring plenty of shade, activities, food, and of course sunscreen!
Events:
Each athlete will be placed in events which are suited to their strengths. Individual preference will also be taken into consideration in terms of which events an athlete prefers to participate in. Additionally, athletes are expected to participate in relay events when requested. And, each athlete will be expected to compete in at least one field event.
NOTE: We typically cap the team at around 35 athletes! Anyone who completes registration on the first day of sign ups (JANUARY 17th) is guaranteed a spot on the team. A waiting list will begin after that point! Thus, please sign up EARLY!
Age Range:
5 to 18, some exceptions may be granted for younger athletes
Fees For 2018:
Registration Fee: $340
USA Track & Field Fee: $20 (to be done yourself on the following site: http://usatf.org/Products---Services/Individual-Memberships.aspx)
Optional Outer Uniform (Warm-Ups) Cost: $125 (optional, but highly recommended--they look nice and will last!)
NOTE: These fees take us up to and including the Regional meet for anyone who qualifies. Anyone who qualifies and opts to participate in the National Junior Olympics will need to pay and additional $10 per qualifying event.
Travel:
It is the responsibility of each family to coordinate travel (and hotel if ever needed) to each of the practices and track meets.
